I spent the final day of 2023 reading this book, digital cover to digital cover.

A decade ago, this statement would not have been notable. I’ve been a voracious reader since childhood. For a large part of my life, I could easily rip through 3–4 nonfiction titles a week.

But as my attention span has dwindled (thanks, menopause!) and my eyesight has gotten worse (thanks, presbyopia!), sitting down to the old Kindle app to read a book has become less pleasurable, and my TBR file has grown and grown.

If I’m not reading, I’m not writing. And that’s a problem for me.

So, I set my sights on making reading pleasurable again.

Absurd as it sounds, one thing I have always hated about ebook-reading is turning the “pages.” Kindles, phone apps, tablets — you either have to swipe or awkwardly press a side button.

It’s a small thing, but when you read fast, these tiny annoyances add up.

Enter “The Clicker.”

Okay, maybe that’s not its formal name, but this tiny Bluetooth device allows me to scroll through ebooks at top speed without ever having to touch my screen.
